Over the next two years, SCADA International will produce server solutions, both on- and offshore, for 10 GW of wind turbine projects for Siemens Gamesa. The 100-plus solutions will be developed based on SCADA International’s lean concept.
SILKEBORG, DENMARK, April 20th, 2020 — With COVID-19 dominating business concerns and causing turbulence in the Danish business community, SCADA International is pleased to announce a strong tailwind. The company, which is known for the solutions it supplies to the wind turbine industry and other sectors, has just landed a two-year contract with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy to develop servers and associated facilities for onshore and offshore wind projects.
The contract covers more than 100 server solutions each year, for wind projects whose total capacity surpasses 10 GW. These projects will be developed using elements of the Lean SCADA concept, in which SCADA International takes responsibility for developing every aspect of the client-bespoke solutions. By managing the process through every stage of the value chain, from development and testing to configuration and installation, SCADA International will ensure that the process is as simple and lean as possible.

Close collaboration through a client hub
A crucial part of the contract is the development of a client hub at SCADA International. The contract thus covers not only the production of servers, but also a set of facilities that the company will make available to Siemens Gamesa. Besides remote testing facilities, they also include specially equipped facilities for on-site client testing and wind turbine simulations.
“Testing is critical to the process,” explains Christian Daather, Client Director at SCADA International. “Once a server solution has been installed at a wind farm, it’s costly and difficult to correct any issues that come up. With the client hub, it’ll be possible to test specs and functionalities remotely. And Siemens Gamesa can also invite their customers to the hub to demonstrate solutions, and together they can test and configure a given project.”
By taking responsibility for the entire development process and offering a customeroriented demonstration facility, SCADA International will operate as a one-stop supplier of SCADA solutions that can be tailored to any project’s particular specs and requirements.
“Production at our factory in Aulum is dedicated solely to Siemens Gamesa,” Daather notes. “That gives them access to a production facility where we can customize and thoroughly test solutions to satisfy their needs. This close collaboration allows us to utilize our full capacity better – and at the same time, ensure that the client achieves quicker lead times and a lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE). In this way, the collaboration will provide both parties with tremendous advantages.”
