When an OneView® 4.5 upgrade works wonders
For the last three months, our OneView Team have worked on an upgrade for the three OneView® Park SCADA systems for Enel Group – and it is fair to say that it has been a remarkable success.
However, success doesn’t come without dedication and challenging work. Something that the team especially can vouch for.
‘A big part of moving forward is learning from the past’
Since 2018, SCADA International delivered three OneView® Park SCADA systems for Enel Group. For the last few months, a dedicated team from SCADA International has worked on upgrading the OneView® SCADA system from the previous version, OneView® 3, to the new and improved version, the OneView® 4.5.
The OneView® 4.5 SCADA system is expected to be fully implemented before the end of the year. Right now, the system is being tested and checked, and so far, the process has proceeded seamlessly.
Morten Bülow, General Manager US at SCADA International, is happy and proud of how well the upgrade has been:
“For Enel Group, the former OneView® SCADA system never fulfilled its full potential, and they experienced some problems with it. So, I am pleased that the implementation of the new OneView® 4.5 system is going well and that Enel Group is happy and satisfied with the upgrade,”
says Morten
An upgrade is not just an upgrade
Upgrading the OneView® software is not like any other software upgrade, where you click a few buttons and let the system do the rest. Protocols need to be changed, and data need to be moved into the new system. Additionally, all the new OneView® features need to be integrated, which is why the upgrade has been a team effort with many helping hands.
Søren Lemming, SCADA Specialist at SCADA International, has been a part of the upgrade and is also very pleased about the process. He mentions that this upgrade has been especially challenging due to the size of Enel Group and its parks:
“Enel Group is a big player in the industry and has many big wind parks. Big wind parks do not on their own make the upgrade challenging for us, but with big parks come huge quantities of data, which makes the upgrade a bit trickier,” says Søren and continues: “That is also why I think this project is worth highlighting because it has been challenging and successful at the same time.”
says Søren
What is the difference between OneView® 3.0 and OneView® 4.5?
Learning from the past is a lesson learned
When upgrading a system like the OneView® software, many lessons can be learned from earlier experiences and upgrades – something Søren can vouch for: “A big part of moving forward is learning from the past. This time around, the configuration process has been much more organized and leaner, which I think has been a key factor for the successful turnout,” says Søren.
The successful implementation and configuration of OneView® 4.5 will work as an exemplary way for upgrading the software for the future. Some of our existing customers are still working in the former OneView® system, but this project can pave the way for more upgrades in the near future: “I hope this project gives us the confidence to perform more OneView® SCADA upgrades and to do it with the high level of professionalism and expertise that characterizes SCADA International and our solutions,” concludes Thomas Bagger, CEO at SCADA International.
